Research

Our research on Sapelo and Ossabaw Island is part of a broader project funded by the National Science Foundation that is geared as understanding long-term coupled socio-ecological systems. The focus of our research is tracking long-term human-environmental dynamics from sites occupied during almost every major archaeological period beginning with the Late Archaic (2200 to 1100 BC) up to the present. We will be excavating both historic and prehistoric components during the duration of the research project. Therefore, students will be exposed to a wide range of archaeological features and techniques.
